The main Marymass Saturday takes place on the second Saturday of the 12-day long festival. But did you know there is a second horse-drawn parade around the Fullarton and Harbourside areas of Irvine the week previous?
The Fourth Port Parade is the first significant event of the Marymass Festival following the opening ceremony. It kicks off a massive day of events in the town, with over 12 hours crammed full of different entertainment for you to enjoy. This all takes place on Saturday 17th August 2019.
The Fourth Port Parade kicks off the day of fun, with the day culminating with the Festival of Light parade and an incredible fireworks display at Irvine Moor.
Fourth Port Parade
The Fourth Port Parade was created several decades ago as it became impossible to get the main Marymass parade over to the Fullarton and Harbourside area due to the construction of the Rivergate Shopping Centre.
The parade, whilst smaller than the main Marymass Saturday showpiece, is just as treasured by the residents of Irvine West. The horse-drawn parade features the Marymass Queen and her four Marys, the Captain of Irvine Carters Society and a number of participating community organisations, horse drawn vehicles and entertainment.
The parade departs Heatherhouse Road at 11am and passes through the Fullarton and Harbourside areas of our Royal Burgh. Below we have a full parade route:
Heatherhouse Road (11:00) > Ayr Road > Rubie Crescent > Lamont Drive > Ayr Road > Merryvale Road > Scott Road > McKinlay Crescent > Fullarton Roundabout > New Street > Montgomery Street > Harbour Street > Beach Drive > Gottries Road > New Street (13:00).
Following the parade you will find an afternoon of entertainment at Irvine Low Green! This event is returning for 2019 following a few years break, so it’s well worth heading along to discover what is on offer. The Low Green event takes place from 12-3pm.
Fireworks & Festival of Light Parade
On the evening of Saturday 17th August, the Irvine skies will light up with a magical array of light, entertainment and, of course, fireworks!
The Festival of Light Parade is set to be bigger and better than ever for 2019. New floats, more colourful than ever, what’s not to love!
The parade departs Irvine Townhouse at 9pm and heads via Irvine Cross, High Street and Kilwinning Road to arrive at The Moor for 9:30pm.
At 9:45pm, the Fireworks begin!! Enjoy one of Ayrshire’s biggest firework displays of the year as thousands of fireworks light the skies above you.
This display is one not to be missed. Irvine Moor will also be packed with stalls, live entertainment, music, food and so much more.
This event is free to all!! Don’t forget to drop a few pence in the collection buckets too, this helps keep the festival growing year on year!
