Marymass is a 12 day annual medieval festival and horse fair held in the North Ayrshire town of Irvine. Dating back to 1372, the festival now incorporates tradition with modern-day influence.
The Marymass Festival is organised by Irvine Carters Society and the small team of dedicated volunteers here at the Marymass Festival Committee.
To this date, the festival prides itself on boasting one of the largest horse-drawn parades in the world. No motorised vehicles are permitted in the main ‘Marymass Saturday’ parade, creating a unique and incredible spectacle.

What’s New For 2019
The team here at The Marymass Festival Committee are working hard all year round to develop and enhance the Marymass Festival for 2019 and in the years ahead.
We are working closely with Irvine Carters Society to grow the festival as much as we possibly can. Here’s what you can expect to arrive in 2019:
A Brand New Website – We have been working hard behind the scenes to bring you this brand new website, marymassfestival.co.uk which you find yourself on now. Work began on the site in February 2019, with several committee members working tirelessly to bring this new hub packed full of information, images and festival exclusives. Officially launched in March 2019, this website will grow over the coming months.
Global Village Market – A massive new arrival for Irvine in 2019 is the Global Village Market. Thanks to Dillon Green and Liam Howie from Discover Ayrshire, the operators of the Glasgow Christmas Markets will bring a huge new market to Bridgegate in Irvine between Thursday 15th and Sunday 19th August. Cllr Ian Clarkson helped play a vital part bringing the UK’s best market operators to Irvine. This is one not to be missed!!
Custom Car Show – 2019 will see the arrival of the 1st Annual Irvine Custom Car Show at the Low Green. The event will run from 12-4pm alongside the re-introduction of the Low Green Gala Day, an event which follows the conclusion of the Fourth Port Parade on Saturday 17th August.
Low Green Gala Day – 2019 will also see the re-introduction of the Low Green Gala Day on Saturday 17th August. The day of fun will start at 12pm and is hosted by Irvine Incorporated Trades. More information can be found in our 2019 Marymass Brochure.
Shop Window Competition – Our committee have been discussing re-introducing the Marymass Shop Window Competition for 2019, with a number of businesses in the town centre keen to get involved. Keep an eye on shop windows in the Bridgegate, High Street, Bank Street and Irvine Cross areas during the month of August as the special festival windows appear! We’ll announce the winner during the 12 day festival.
Marymass Gardening Competition – We are also re-introducing the Marymass Gardening Competition for 2019. This reinvented competition is open to everyone in the KA12 postcode and, for the first time ever, the KA11 postcode too! Gardens of all shapes and sizes are encouraged to enter, with judging and winners announced during the Marymass festivities. Stay tuned to our website and the local press for further information in due course.
Extended Patron Scheme – For 2019, the Marymass Patrons Scheme will be extended. Now, if more than one Patron resides at the same address, a discounted joint annual patronage will be issued. A Corporate Patron Package is now also available for the cost of £150. More information can be found on our dedicated Patrons page.
